Robert Blanshay has over 18 years of successful legal experience, specializing in Immigration and Refugee Law. The Law Society of upper Canada certified Blanshay as a Specialist in Immigration and Refugee Law in 2006.He has also received certification in Alternative Dispute Resoultion (ADR) from the University of Toronto. A Member of the Law Society of Upper Canada, the Canadian Bar Association, the Immigration Section of the C.B.A.O. as well as the Refugee Lawyer's Association, Robert has tremendous knowledge, insight and experience in immigration law.

Mr. Blanshay received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1987 majoring in Political Science and International Studies from McGill University in Montreal. He continued on to Robson Hall, Faculty of Law at the University of Manitoba, obtaining his Law degree in 1990. Two short years later, he was called to the Ontario Bar.

As an expert in the field, Mr. Blanshay has provided consultation to the Department of Citizenship and Immigration Canada, the Immigration and Refugee Board, Canada Border Services Agency, and a host of Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs). Mr. Blanshay as been quoted in The Globe and Mail and Xtra Magazine. In January 2008, Mr. Blanshay was asked to speak in Toronto to a group of Human Resources Vice-Presidents on Work Permits for Foreign nationals in Canada.

As a result of his dedication to successful client service, Mr. Blanshay was voted 2007 Best Lawyer in Toronto by the readers of Xtra Magazine.

Associates

Sheliza Suchak, Honours B.Com., LL.B. Sheliza obtained her law degree from Queen's University, and was called to the Ontario Bar in 2007. After articling at Torys LLP, she joined Pro Bono Students Canada as the Associate Director for nearly two years, where she worked to improve access to justice across Canada. During this time she also represented refugees at the Immigration and Refugee Board, and Federal Court, on a pro bono basis. Sheliza joined the firm in 2009.


Karina Thompson B.A. (Hon.), LL.B obtained her Law degree from the University of Toronto Faculty of Law in 2002 and also holds a B.A. (Hon.) in Political Science and Women's Studies. Karina completed her international articles in Hawaii, specializing in domestic violence in 2003. She has a keen interest in human rights and international issues and is a member of Amnesty International. Karina joined the firm in 2003.
